Fashion has always had a way of taking our core wardrobe essentials and turning them into statement pieces. It’s no surprise, then, that the protective face coverings we’ve been advised (and in some cases, ordered) to wear outdoors to curb the spread of corona virus have quickly been embraced and beautified by the fashion world.
Today I am here to share the #face-mask trends that’s going on in the world. The spread of Covid-19 has landed up to the stage of taking precautions and wearing mask just like we wear clothes any other day. Face mask has become a really essential part of our lives. I can recall my mom calling me out everyday just to ask if i had wore mask or not before going out. So gradually this mask culture grew from a surgical face-mask- n95 mask to stylish designer face masks; I’ve been thinking a lot about fashion masks, and how masks will fit into the fashion industry as they become such an important part of our wardrobes. For better or worse, that’s what it is: something we wear. So it’s not surprising that they’ve become a fashion statement.
People have now starting experimenting with face masks by stitching it themselves at home , doing embroidery on them , doing tie and die and customizing it like they wanted it to be. now the masks are no longer boring to wear as it has some fun element in it. People all over the globe are making face-masks and selling it online, and having are making money. Some are using their creativity to make beautiful pieces.
Face masks available in response to the pandemic have been including some of the most interesting print trends that i have seen. Masks have become part of our foreseeable future and brands are getting in on this market space with new wave of high-priced designs for consumers who want that couture edge. Many beautiful prints and colorful masks are being manufactured ; some are beaded while some even have patch work.
Due to hot & humid climate in south Asian country like India , people are shifting from synthetic masks to pure cotton masks which are either double layered or triple layered ( for protection purpose).
I recently got a Jaipuri printed cloth for making a dress out of it, so when I went to tailor to get the dress stitched, I asked him to make the triple layered mask of the remaining fabric. And I think it was a great idea because I can wear it whenever I wear that dress ; so basically I got a matching set which was great plus I utilized fabric from apparel collections to reduce waste materials. You can also use scrap materials to make mix-and-match masks for a playful approach to functional accessories.
These above are some of the collection of summer 2020 which are beautiful matching sets i came across social media. the color, the prints and the vibes are so summery and cool. While the last right picture is of a model walks the runway at the Marine Serre Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 2019-2020 fashion show at Paris Fashion Week . Other than that I have seen that there are many Bollywood as well as Hollywood celebrities showing off their masks which are very pretty.
There is no doubt that face mask has become a new trend this year. It can be sustainable option and environmental friendly where you use the scrap material and produce less fabric waste plus it generates more employment opportunities to people as well as be fashionable & good to go.
I hope this has inspired you in a way and helped you to get better understanding about the existence and development of masks in fashion industry.
Aspire to Inspire.
Have a good day!
